The road from DXB to Fujairah, step by step
Of all our UAE transfer routes from Dubai airport, this is the one that crosses a mountain range, and the road changes character three times.
From Terminal 3 the driver heads north-east onto the E311, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and crosses from Dubai into Sharjah. Inside Sharjah the car turns east onto the E102, Maliha Road, for about 40 km of open desert interior past Mleiha. Then comes the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Highway, the E84: a dual carriageway of about 45 km, opened in December 2011, which climbs through the Hajar mountains and drops you on the coast at Fujairah City. Some sites call it the E11; OpenStreetMap says E84.
Three emirates in under two hours, and no border formalities between them. The pickup itself works exactly as on our Dubai airport transfer page: name board in the arrivals hall, flight tracked, 60 minutes of free waiting.
Where east coast drop-offs usually go
“Fujairah” covers a long coastline, and the hotel decides the road. OpenStreetMap routing sends Fujairah City trips over the E84, but beach resorts further north are reached faster on the Khor Fakkan Road, a Sharjah highway that opened in April 2019 and passes Al Rafisah Dam on the way down to the sea.
| Drop-off | Road km from DXB T3 | Clear-road time | Mountain crossing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fujairah International Airport (FJR) | 114 | 1 hr 35 min | E84 |
| Fujairah City (Fort, Corniche hotels) | 116 | 1 hr 40 min | E84 |
| Khor Fakkan (Sharjah) | 125 | 1 hr 45 min | Khor Fakkan Road |
| Dibba Al Fujairah | 132 | 1 hr 50 min | inland roads north |
| Al Aqah beach resorts | 144 | 2 hr 5 min | Khor Fakkan Road |
Times are free-flow OpenStreetMap estimates (12 October 2026), so the best case.
In Fujairah City most hotels sit on or near Hamad Bin Abdulla Road and Al Corniche Road. The Sheikh Zayed Mosque, the second largest in the UAE, is a few minutes from Fujairah’s airport, and the Port of Fujairah is close to the city. Al Bidya Mosque, often called the oldest in the country, is on the same stretch of coast about 40 km north of the city. Give us the hotel name, not just “Fujairah”, and we’ll quote and route for the right crossing.
Timing your Dubai airport to Fujairah transfer
The mountains rarely slow you down. The Dubai and Sharjah end does. Monday to Saturday, Salik charges its peak rate from 6am to 10am and 4pm to 8pm, and that’s a fair guide to when the E311 near the Dubai-Sharjah boundary fills. A 5pm landing on a Tuesday is when the top of our range applies.
Mornings are kinder in this direction. The documented queues at the Al Nahda and Al Wahda border points run from Sharjah into Dubai, so a 7am departure from DXB heads the other way. Between 1am and 6am the Salik gates are free and the whole drive sits close to its clear-road time. Sharjah and Fujairah charge private cars no tolls at all; our Salik and Darb toll guide explains the Dubai side.
Fujairah to Dubai airport: what changes on the way back
Same road, traffic reversed. The morning rush from Sharjah into Dubai is now in your path, so for a flight before midday we plan generous slack on the last 30 km. Tell us your terminal, as Terminal 2 isn’t linked to 1 and 3.
Flying out of Fujairah’s own airport instead? The Fujairah airport to Dubai page covers that direction, airport to airport.
Bus, rail or taxi to the east coast
We haven’t found a public bus that runs direct from DXB to Fujairah. IndiGo runs coaches to Fujairah airport from Dubai and other emirates, but they’re timed to its own flights, not to DXB arrivals.
Etihad Rail’s website now has a passenger journey planner. Reports in 2026 put its Dubai station at Jumeirah Golf Estates and its Fujairah stop at Al Hilal City. A train dodges the E311 traffic, but that station is across the city from DXB, so you’d need a ride at both ends with your bags. Check the planner first.
The Dubai Taxi rank works at any hour, though a cab’s meter runs the whole 116 km and adds a Sharjah surcharge. For one traveller with a backpack in daylight it’s a fair option. For anyone else, a car with driver booked ahead at a fixed fare usually wins. Our intercity transfers cover the same coast from Dubai city addresses too.
Which car to book for a Dubai airport to Fujairah transfer
Two hours over the Hajar mountains is long enough for the car to matter. A couple with two cases rides well in a business sedan such as the Lexus ES. A family of five heading to an Al Aqah resort with a pushchair should take the Chevrolet Suburban, which seats six with room for five large cases, or a Mercedes V-Class. Groups of up to ten fit a Toyota HiAce.
Children under four must ride in a child seat under UAE law, so give us ages when you book. Want a driver for coast days once you’re settled? Add our chauffeur service in Fujairah to the same WhatsApp message.
