Who books a Toyota Hiace with driver in Dubai
You book the Hiace for the head count: ten people in one vehicle, on one fare. Its regulars are sports teams heading to a tournament, wedding guests flying in from abroad, site crews on a morning shuttle and extended families who’d otherwise need three taxis. It sits at the top of the van class in our fleet, between the seven-seat MPVs and the minibuses.
Toyota UAE currently sells the Hiace as a 13-seater, with 2.7-litre petrol, 2.8-litre diesel and 3.5-litre V6 engines listed. The base version has fabric seats. That tells you what kind of vehicle this is: built to carry people reliably every day, with a Toyota service network in every emirate.
What the Hiace cabin is like
Expect rows of upright seats, a wide sliding door and plenty of glass. It’s air-conditioned throughout, and the high driving position gives the driver a clear view in Deira’s tight streets. What you won’t get is lounge seats, tables or mood lighting. If those matter, look at a Mercedes instead.
Toyota counts 13 seats including the driver and front passenger seat, which leaves twelve for passengers. We quote ten because twelve people plus twelve suitcases don’t fit. The RTA also fines operators for carrying more passengers than a vehicle’s authorised capacity (RTA violations list), so we won’t squeeze in a thirteenth person, and children count.
Luggage: the ten-and-seven rule
Our working figure is ten adults with seven large check-in cases, plus cabin bags. Twelve passengers works when half the group travels light, like a team on a two-night tournament with kit bags only.
The trap is the family reunion where all ten people bring a 30 kg case. That’s ten big cases, and the van runs out of room. Add a sedan for the bags, or move up to the Toyota Coaster for bigger numbers.
Routes and airport runs it suits
The Hiace suits the Dubai airport to Ras Al Khaimah transfer when a family or team is heading for a beach resort on Al Marjan Island with all their bags.
It also handles the airport-to-airport connection. Dubai Airports puts DXB and DWC about 65 km apart, and you clear passport control and collect your bags before you can travel between them. A group with ten checked cases making the DXB to Al Maktoum airport transfer needs exactly this van. For larger events, see our group transportation service.
Hiace, Sprinter or V-Class?
| Toyota Hiace | Mercedes Sprinter | Mercedes V-Class | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Passengers we quote | 10 | 12 (standard layout) | 6 |
| Large cases we plan for | 7 | 9 | 5 |
| Cabin | Plain and practical | Taller cabin, VIP layouts exist | Car-like, lounge layouts exist |
| Best for | Teams, staff, budget groups | Delegations, wedding guests | Families |
Two V-Classes can carry the same ten people with more bags, but they split the group. Most teams prefer one Hiace. When the client is a board of directors rather than a youth football squad, book the Mercedes Sprinter.
Booking tips
Send the head count with children included, the number of large cases and every flight number. Child seats are available on request, and each one takes a seat. The driver waits in arrivals with a name board and you get 60 minutes of free waiting at the airport.
