How a Dubai airport transfer works at DXB
Send us your flight number, terminal, drop-off address and number of suitcases on WhatsApp. We reply with a fixed fare for the car you choose, and that’s the price. On the day we follow the flight, so the driver is in the hall when you actually land.
It’s the same system we run at every UAE airport we cover, with one DXB twist. Dubai Airports says it plainly in its official FAQ: there’s no pickup area at Arrivals. Anyone collecting a passenger parks in the terminal car park and walks in. So your driver stands in the hall after customs with your name on a board, and the car is a short walk away.
You get 60 minutes of free waiting. DXB handled 95.2 million passengers in 2025, and on a heavy evening a long passport queue and a slow belt can use most of that hour. If you’ll need a car for meetings after you land, our chauffeur service in Dubai can go in the same WhatsApp message.
Arrivals at Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3
DXB’s three terminals don’t behave the same way. Check the terminal on your ticket and put it in your booking message.
Terminal 3: Emirates
Terminal 3 is Emirates’ terminal, built around Concourses A, B and C, and some flydubai flights use it too. You clear passport control (by smart gate if you’re eligible), collect your bags, pass customs and walk out into Arrivals. Your driver is there. Dubai Airports puts the T3 car park at a 2-3 minute walk from every level.
T3 also has DXB Greet & Go, Dubai Airports’ QR-code reception point for registered hotels and transport firms. If you booked with us, look for the name board.
Terminal 1: most other international airlines
Terminal 1, with Concourse D, handles the international carriers that aren’t Emirates. As of October 2026 that includes Qatar Airways and Air India, with British Airways and Lufthansa when they’re operating. Same routine, same hall meeting. Car Park A is a 2-3 minute walk, and the Red Line Metro stops here.
Terminal 2: flydubai, regional and charter flights
Terminal 2 is the odd one out. It carries most flydubai flights plus regional, charter and pilgrimage traffic, it has no Metro station, and it isn’t joined to T1 or T3. Car Park A is a 3-5 minute walk. Because flydubai splits between T2 and T3, this is where wrong-terminal mix-ups happen, and fixing one means a drive round the airport.
For gates, concourses and connections between terminals, our Dubai airport terminals guide goes deeper.
Where your driver waits, and what to do if you can’t see them
Inside, after customs, in the arrivals hall of your terminal. That’s the meeting point. The board carries the lead passenger’s name exactly as you gave it to us, so if your passport says Mohammed and the booking says Mo, tell us.
If you can’t spot the board, stay in the hall and message us on WhatsApp. Don’t walk out to the car park looking for the car. Our page on airport meet and greet sets out the routine at every airport we serve.
Timing tips for DXB pickups by time of day
Between 1am and 6am, Dubai’s Salik toll gates are free and the roads are at their emptiest. The Metro is shut: it closes at midnight (1am on Fridays) and on Sundays doesn’t open until 8am. A 2am landing or a 6.30am Sunday arrival leaves you with the taxi rank or a booked car.
Monday to Saturday, Salik charges its peak rate from 6am to 10am and from 4pm to 8pm. That’s a fair guide to when Al Khail Road and Sheikh Zayed Road fill, and when the top of each range in the table is realistic.
September to December is exhibition season: The National counted more than 100 Dubai shows in those months this year, and GITEX Global’s exhibition runs at Expo City from 8 to 11 December 2026. If you’re flying in for a show, tell us the venue as well as the hotel.
A dated note: as of 12 October 2026, DXB is open, but some airlines are still on reduced schedules after this year’s airspace disruption. If your flight is retimed or switched, send us the new number and we’ll re-plan the pickup.
Getting from DXB to Downtown, the Marina and the Palm
DXB sits in Al Garhoud, about 4.7 km east of the city centre, which is why Deira is a short hop. Downtown Dubai and Business Bay are 14-16 km away, mostly via Al Khail Road. The Marina, JBR and Palm Jumeirah are at the far end of the city, 32-37 km out along Sheikh Zayed Road, and at rush hour that drive stretches well past its empty-road time. Expo City is about 47 km and Al Maktoum airport 62 km.
In the drive-time table, the first figure is the empty-road time from OpenStreetMap routing (run on 12 October 2026) and the second allows for ordinary traffic. Salik gates sit on both main roads, including Business Bay Crossing on Al Khail Road and the Al Safa and Al Barsha gates on Sheikh Zayed Road, and our Salik and Darb toll guide explains how they’re charged.
Dubai airport taxi or a pre-booked transfer?
Dubai Taxi runs the official ranks at all three terminals, 24 hours a day. Its airport taxi page lists a starting fare of AED 20 for a standard taxi and AED 25 for a van, then AED 2.62 per km and 50 fils per minute of waiting, with Salik on top and an extra AED 20 if the trip passes through Sharjah. Dubai Airports gives the starting fare as AED 25, so expect AED 20-25 depending on the car. Uber, Careem and Bolt also work at DXB from signed pickup points.
Our view: alone with a cabin bag, going to Deira at 3pm, the rank is fine. Book ahead when the trip has moving parts, like children who need seats, five people with seven suitcases, or a run into Sharjah or Abu Dhabi where the meter keeps going through every jam. Our taxi vs private transfer guide runs the full comparison.
Intercity transfers from Dubai airport
Many DXB arrivals are bound for another emirate. Sharjah airport is about 29 km by road and central Sharjah around 20 km. Ras Al Khaimah city is about 101 km up the E311, roughly 86 minutes on clear roads. The Abu Dhabi Corniche is about 163 km down Sheikh Zayed Road and the E11, where the Darb gate at Ghantoot has charged AED 4 a crossing around the clock since May 2026.
The Dubai airport to Abu Dhabi transfer, the short run from DXB to Sharjah and the drive north to Ras Al Khaimah each have their own page with roads and timings, all at one fixed fare from the arrivals hall. A Sharjah tip: the documented morning queues at the Al Nahda and Al Wahda border points run into Dubai, so an early run out to Sharjah goes against the worst of it.
Which car to book for your Dubai airport pickup
Count suitcases, not people. A business sedan such as the Lexus ES or Mercedes E-Class carries three passengers but only two large cases. Three adults with a big case each have already outgrown it, so book an SUV like the GMC Yukon Denali, which takes four large cases. For a family of five with a pushchair, take the Mercedes V-Class: six seats and room for five large cases. Groups of up to ten fit a Toyota HiAce.
Child seats are available on request; tell us each child’s age when you book.
